The One Thing
Sometimes, I have more ideas streaming through my head than I know how to channel. I would really love to be on a team where we brainstorm and arrive at a finished product. Like today, an idea for animals that live at the zoo, but are not zoo animals, was bounced off me. “John, you like writing, what would you do with this?” Oh, how fun. A kids’ books or a comic strip or cartoon. The juxtaposition of free animals versus the ones locked up just seems comical. I shared the idea with a coworker- yes, I really am a flibbertigibbet, and she inspired my first quote. Two street cats making fun of the tiger, “Look, tiger tiger is not so bright…” Second cat interrupts. “Yeah, I guess the new orange is the new black.”
Do you realize, there are more stories of unlikely friendships in both nature and in captivity than we appreciate. Every now and then on the news, you might hear an anecdote, caught on film, how a bird rescued kittens from a drain, or cat rescued a bird. It’s been seen in the wild- animals helping animals. How is it humans think altruism is only human? Dolphins have even been known to help drowning sailors. If we accumulated all the evidence for love in nature, would we have to change our ideas about animals?
