It’s difficult to have this discussion without invoking a conspiracy or two. Perhaps I am more prone to that than most because I am skeptical of human behavior. Getting a degree in sociology didn’t help that. As a rule, if you follow the cost/benefits of any institution the ‘social facts’ are that social classes still exist. As fancy as our legalese and constitutions are, there are limits and restraints to all institutions’ tolerance. Just talking about UFOs tests that theory. Maybe it is just human nature to impede conversation that doesn’t seem to benefit society. Do UFOs or aliens represent a benefit or a threat?

Well, of course they do. It’s definitely a threat to the established realities of government and religion and all sense of human authority. Humans do play social games. Even though from a completely legal stance all humans are equal, most people defer to people of authority and who own wealth. Aliens are beyond technological wealth, and any knowledge they have in any domain, automatically makes them superior. Most humans will defer to aliens by default. Even if the aliens promote the most radical, egalitarian social structure, humans will naturally defer to…
