Are UFOs and Aliens Public Domain
I find the concepts of ownership, especially when discussing intellectual concepts, challenging. There are some things that are clear. This is my car. This is your home. My body, yours. There are some artifacts that come with clear boundaries. Beethoven is public domain. Anyone can play his music without royalties. But you can’t just share anyone’s playing of Beethoven, because person may own that. HG Wells books, public domain. Still, we pay for the books, even electronic versions; why? I wonder if Wells has family that still benefits? Disney is about to have stuff finally go public domain, though there were exception status granted. Where do UFOs and Aliens fit in on this pyramid scheme?
When do humans get free and clear discourse on narratives, without fearing that asking questions results in accusations of disinformation and being branded a trouble maker?
When can humans share stories without worry that someone owns the story? Though money is a factor here, I don’t think it’s just about money. If you read my essays, it generates some money for me. Fair enough. Medium would like membership, but you would get two free articles a month, and if you like and read me, well- there is incentive enough for me to continue and try to improve.
