Movies Like Comfort Food
Sometimes, I think I am nuts. I really thought I had written about my love for Joe Vrs the Volcano. I can’t find it. Maybe I didn’t. Maybe I just talk about Joe so much that I simply think I wrote about it. I don’t even know how to write this in terms of review, and if you haven’t seen it, and don’t want spoilers, well, tune out now. This movie defines life and spirituality on a level few movies approach. I might say Pleasantville is related. I would allow for Amelie and Groundhog Day being held here. This should not only compulsory watching in film class, this should be the go-to movie of all teachers who use movies to fill in time when they ran out of lesson plans.
Look, this movie was completely underrated. It is brilliant in theme and scope and is timeless in execution. The age of it is hard to pin down, because the scenes suggest moving through eras, not just life. In some ways, that’s is reminiscent of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the Gene Wilder version. Though you can date it by the lack of cell phones, Charlie is forever. Joe Versus the Volcano is forever
This long and winding road
This movies likely has the best sound track ever. I have not found a copy of the soundtrack, and so I just listen to the movie…
