Movie Wisdom
I am going to reveal how old I am. Back in the day, if mother was mad she would say, “just wait till your dad gets home.” There was no, “don’t make me text your dad.” Live events were scheduled, like thanks giving, Christmas, and the annual viewing of the Wizard of Oz. This was wonderous magic. It was terrifying! To this day, I am fearful of tornadoes and flying monkeys. I am old, I have been married twice, and neither wife had seen the Wizard of Oz until I made them watch it. The Thai wife said, ‘even in 1939, the acting is better than Thai movies today.’ Well, Thai TV is essentially all soap operas. Korea is kicking ass in entertainment right now! Both wives said, “Oh, that’s where this song originated?” Yes, Over the Rainbow, right here.
DID YOU KNOW:
The Wizard of Oz is still the standard for all musicals. You have to have a wish or dream song. The Rainbow Connection from the Muppet Movie isn’t just an allusion to Over the Rainbow, it’s paying homage to the tradition.
Judy Garland would have a love/hate relationship to the song Over the Rainbow. That song made her. It may have influence her self destruction. There is no way she was truly compensated for the relevance of that song.
