Bernardo Kastrup on Aliens
Bernardo Kastrup, double PhD in philosophy and computer engineering, weighs in on non-human intelligence.
I find Doctor Kastrup to be a fascinating read, and a lively interview for a podcast dipping into the Metaphysical. Being interested in the metaphysical, even if it’s limited to speculative philosophy, I have dabbled because of personal experiences. Kastrup acknowledges he has been dismissive about UAP and the potential that non-human intelligence is the driving force, which to me feels like a contradiction. Can there be metaphysics without non-human intelligence? Can there be any science without non-human intelligence? Humanity, through science, has deemed itself the top of the intellectual pyramid by comparing and contrasting other species on earth. There is a measure for human versus ‘Other.’ Our self ranking doesn’t make us top dog. Is there “Other?”
Of course there is. Even if there was absolutely zero evidence for non-human intelligence, the fact there is life on Earth and other planets, more than anyone could have dared put a number on it 20 years ago, results in the natural inference there is non-human intelligence somewhere. That is no longer even debated. If life is a natural occurrence, then it happens everywhere.
Is that ‘Other’ life here? There is more evidence for that than is getting credibly discussed. Perhaps it is in this environment where it is clear Congress is grappling with some hidden agenda monster, an “other” in its own right, is resulting in academics of solid intellectual standing to wade in where they haven’t previously.
This is a good thing.
I know There’s Something Going on, Frida…
Kastrup’s foray into this topic is met with intellectual honesty and respect. The essay is long because the history of UFOs is significant and the lack of academic investigation is so remarkable, that it requires multiple stepped arguments just to justify each piece relevant to discuss.
I shall start, below, by motivating the validity of the mystery: UAPs are no longer just tall and questionable tales shared on social media, accompanied by grainy, out-of-focus cellular phone…
