How long were dinosaurs on the Earth? Technically, they’re still on the Earth, if you count turtles, tortoises, alligators, and lizards. Could there have been a sentient race of humanoid dinosaurs? If they were as sophisticated as us, would there be any evidence remaining, after all this time?

Wait for it…

Not a Sleestak. It’s an Altrusian. The Altrusian is precursor to the Sleestak, the descendants, the de-evolved ones, the ones that inherited the Land of the Lost when the Altrusians were gone. The story of the Sleestaks reminds me quite a bit of the Morlocks, in the H.G. Wells novel, The Time Machine. The Morlocks were the remnants of man, the ones that lived in the tunnels and ran the machinery after the war to end all wars. Yes, even Doctor Strangelove can trace its archetypal roots back to the Time Machine. Do stories work best when there is an element of truth hidden in its layers?

Then again, we can take walking, talking reptiles all the way back to Genesis. So, is this theme really new? How old is this archetype?

The Grays

Land of the Lost, original, 1974. It had everything. Mysterious pylons, suggesting pyramid power? Primitive humans that look like bigfoot? Clint Howard as Chaka? They had time travel. They had a world below, so inner earth? The big eyed…
