Challenging the Narratives of Hell

My childhood days are marked with stories of fire and brimstone, and actual artifacts of sheer horror, and just normal horrors perpetuated overtime by agents struggling with mental health and addictions. Though I consider myself significantly improved, compared to my youthful days spent recovering by wondering random paths through the desert, I still recognize affliction. I find it interesting that even today, people come to my office carrying such profound thoughts of unworthiness they assume they are doomed to hell, as opposed to realizing they already are in a hell- sometimes a self-imposed sentence, sometimes a sentence given by family, and sometimes society. It’s particularly horrific when all three of those line up together.

What Is Radical Acceptance?

Mental health and behaviors defy the understanding of most people, who lazily label things good or bad. Though I have a slightly improved philosophy, I can be so lazy, and I am too frequently baffled by why people are behaving in such self destructive ways that they’re likely to get themselves killed. I sometimes lack the sophistication to understand, as well as lacking the descriptive language to label the thing that might lend itself towards a remedy. Though an 18 year old can be a legal adult, they can also have the emotional and academic qualities of a 12 year old. One…
