UFOs and Aliens
There is a psychological explanation for schizophrenia. The theory suggests that the schizophrenogenic mother triggers schizophrenic episodes in their offspring due to increasingly, complex, dualistic interaction patterns. Double binds are non-sequitur, linguistic traps resulting in cognitive dissonance which could result in psychotic breaks. For example, let’s say a mother buys her son two shirts for his 19th birthday. They’re the exact same shirts, same brand, same style, except one is red and the other is blue. Son comes to breakfast the next morning wearing the red shirt. Mother’s first question is, “What, you don’t like the blue shirt?” Brain malfunction ensues.
Paradoxical artifacts of thought exist, and frequently adorn the philosophical landscape humans like to explore. Double binds, and schizophrenogenic mothers, don’t cause schizophrenia. In truth, no one knows the precise mechanisms and why some people mildly suffer and others profoundly suffer to the point of being seriously non functional. Consider the good side of this continuum- a Beautiful Mind, 2001, Russel Crowe and Jennifer Connelly compared to the more unfortunate side the Soloist, 2009, Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey Jr. Biology is a factor. Family history of mental health increases the potential offspring will be challenged by mental health.
