Fair enough. I don't think I said we were the worst in the galaxy. I do think we need to be improved. I think my measure for the optimum human condition would be Star Trek: TOS and Star Trek: TNG. I want us to be that good!

As for those books not being worth a grain of salt, I would argue their validity went up the moment the US Government confirmed UFOs are real, and they have been lying about studying them for the last 75 years. Who holds more creditability, the government caught red handed in lying, the academics and scientists who have been delinquent in studying a phenomena, the media who refused to report the situation, or the only professionals that tried to get the story out?
