On Being Male

Forever Lonely

I’d say it’s rare when media tries to address the issue of loneliness. There was an attempt today to communicate something about society, about relationships, about men. I wonder if all societies have been reactionary versus proactive. We tend not to fix things until things are devastatingly bad. Some things may not be fixable. Loneliness, suicide rates, failure to connect… It seems par for the course for society, and who among us would give up our phones? The primary companies driving culture are the very ones that would have us stay the course, out of economic necessity.

Ageing Alone

There is an over abundance of articles and statistics to back this up. The World Health Organization. Psychology today. Hell, even President Biden recognizes this as an issue and is trying to get Family Leave Act for workers passed that would allow people time off to take care of family and friends without the fear of loss of job.

I am not sure how that would help those who have no family. Or friends.

Using myself as an example

This is a tough one to discuss. To be very frank and honest, I am one disaster away from complete isolation and failure. I have one friend who I could call 24/7 and he be there. My neighbors would be there. I suspect in emergency, the folks at work would rally to my aid.
