Hello, Carol. I think one of the reasons you don't hear much from people is that this subject has been so dismissed for so long and so hard, the public is weary. Take the last best public sighting. The Phoenix Lights. 100K witnesses to that. Not only did that get shut down, but they were ridiculed. It happened in March. The rest of us didn't know till June, when the story made the front page of the USA today. Local news had like a 30 second report where they cued up x-file themes and laughed. No one on bought the flare explanation.
2017, the TICTAC UFO was discussed by the media, and they brought in the usual talking heads, like Neil DeGrasse Tyson. To a one, they scoffed, they laughed, and all said 'not aliens.' No one was saying aliens, but they said 'not aliens' without scrutinizing the tapes. They didn't ask for more data. Not one said wow. And then there was a slew of videos on how to fake "TICTAC" videos. Divorced from the testimony of the pilots, you either bought the skeptical explanation, or like most, you leave it alone, like politics or religion of the first rule of fight club, you just don't talk about fight club.
I have friends who have witnessed things that don't box well into any normative explanation sets. Most people I have had conversations with are reasonably open. The next set leaned towards skepticism, but were polite in wanting to hold off till they had an experience. And then there were the hard core skeptics that wanted to argue with you all day. Some of those would bring in religion and would spin it as demons. I suspect if we plotted people on a graph, there is a probably normal distribution of folks along a bell curve. The social facts have kept the bulk of people within their plot points.
That's going to change. The debates are coming. The conversations will likely be difficult. Mostly, because we just don't know enough about what's going on. Maybe the government knows more, but I bet they don't know much more than we do. Either way, because of the suppression of the conversation that has needed to happen since Foo Fighters in World War II, there could potentially be some back lash. Maybe not. Maybe now, after COVID, and so many other things that are occupying our public minds, maybe we'll just forget, forgive, and slide into a new reality that was always kind of part of are reality in some way. Whether that reference point for you was friend's story, or a book on the subject or fiction, you're likely to hear, 'yeah, we've known forever. Now what?'
