How Journalism Failed the Public on UFOs

Even a cursory, broad glimpse of UFOs in the news and in print over the years reveals at best ignorance of a subject, at worse direct malice. There is humor, perhaps necessary to reduce an unconscious fear- what if there is something to this- but mostly, the jokes comes across as ridicule. In 1997, the Phoenix Lights incident was witnessed by thousands. How many people lived in Phoenix in 1997? The sighting lasted for 106 minutes- shouldn’t that be a million people witnessed it?
