How Mood Changes Tone

I am aware of how my mood affects my writing. I am also aware, my writing affects my mood. There are some subjects I should clearly stay away from. Politics, for sure. Writing about UFOs, that makes me happy, though I can get a bit serious sometimes. I aiming for assertive. I don’t like the angry stuff. I can hear Bill Murray, holding a groundhog, “don’t write angry.” I also notice, when I am in that mood, I am a little meaner, my discernment goes down, and I walk away still in a state, with no emotional closure.

Journaling to get stuff out is a different kind of writing. I recommend it. But as I try to transition to a more public, professional kind of writing, maybe I also need to consider a generalized audience. Anyone can channel anger, but when we read stuff, we’re wanting to get away from that. We want inspirational, and interesting, and fun. If I wanted angry, well I could have stayed in my own head and had plenty of that.

Cautious in comments

I like reading and leaving comments. I may have to be more cautious here. It is too easy to make assumptions about a person by their writing. I met with that just the other day. I responded to, essentially, an angry medium article. My tone in the comment was quiet, respectfully explaining an alternative position, and even complementing the other…
