I struggle sometimes to remember the good things. It takes effort to maintain a presence of gratefulness, surrounded by narratives that are less positive. There is a path, and there is goodness, and it sometimes seems it takes a PhD in mindfulness to keep on the path. It does not take a PhD.

Everything I Needed to Know

I learned in Kindergarten, book by Robert Fulghum, 1986 offered me a lesson in math. I am not fond of math, but I can generalize this much. Most people on the planet are good, decent people. In 2015, the total world population that was incarcerated was 10.35 million people. The world population in 2015 was 7.339 billion people. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out, most people are decent, law biding folks. If humans were as bad as we might sometimes think, we would not have as many people on the planet.

That doesn’t mean we don’t have some problems. Just with the above number of folks incarcerated, there is some things to sort out. I would say many of them shouldn’t be incarcerated. Experiencing mental health or IDD shouldn’t be a crime. I would also argue, there are some people who should be incarcerated. I would also point out that America, land of the free, ironically has more people incarcerated per capita than all other nations, including China, who pings in second in this statistic, and not generally known for being…
