I am actually surprised folks still think genes are that deterministic. It seems like I remember reading about a study where they raised two sets of kittens, one set in rooms where the kittens were exposed only to horizontal lines, and the other set to only vertical lines. Apparently the vertical line cats couldn't jump to a table top to save their life, and the horizontal cats couldn't find an exit... ???
Maybe I misremember that. But isn't it clear, even if there is a gene for alcohol dependence, it's not triggered if there is no environmental activation?
But yeah, really interesting worm study. Are these the same worms that if you cut their heads off they grow a new head? Was there any evidence that the new head doesn't wire the brain exactly the same?
