I consider myself spiritual, and I think your position is fair. I read this book by Barbara Ehrenreich, "Bright-sided: How the Relentless Promotion of Positive Thinking Has Undermined America"

and in that, and in your essay, there are things some, many?, spiritual folks do that would convert a mass of people to atheism pretty quick! LOL. Like kicking someone out of your cancer group because they were depressed during a meeting. There is no evidence that sometimes being negative will kill you, but there is definitely evidence that if a person surrounds themselves with only positive people, they loose the ability to handle stress when it does happen. All people have downs, and those that insist on only positive may find themselves alone when their friends can't tolerate their down turn.
