I hear you, Danny. People do have a good 'truth' sense about them, and I trust your assessment. I do it for a living, assess people. I look for consistency, malingering, minimization... Am I ever fooled? Sure, some people are that good, but most the time, people are really not good at maintaining lies, conscious or subconscious ones. The subconscious ones are trickier to tease out, but it begins to unravels, folks get lost pretty fast, and that's where the counseling comes in and you put in support to help transition.
When I hear from the folks that say there is nothing to this, my head explodes with question. Are they not paying attention? Did they actually examine the data, whether that is book or video of hearing testimony. Do they suck at reading people? If we rule out 'charismatic' people, there is thing about testimony from an experiencer that just resonates to the core, whether that a spiritual discovery, or personal recovery from illness or addiction, or someone who say a ghost or UFO- it's meaningful.
