I thought science wasn't about 'saving' paradigms. If physics has been stagnating, by definition people are pursuing something that is not quite right? Science is not about preserving old ways, but in discovering what's measurable. Physics isn't stagnating, and doesn't need to be saved. People just need to approach the problem from an unexplored angle. If in the process we discover that none of it is right, well, you discard in favor of what works.
