In Search of Extraordinary Evidence

October 4th, 1955, a US Army Staff Colonel Hathaway visiting the Soviet Union near the Caspian Sea, with several others, witnessed a rotating disk rise from the ground and then ‘disappeared.’ Though not stated it accelerated away, one can interpret ‘disappeared’ to parallel Top Gun, David Fravor’s reports, “Poof, it’s gone.” When asked what he meant, he said just that. Poof. Not there. A few seconds later, radar tracking established contact with the object at Fravor’s CAP point, some sixty miles away.

One of the witnesses with Colonel Hathaway was Senator Richard Russell, Senate of the Armed Service Committee. We can assume he, too, was a rational, reasonable witness. Hathaway is on record for saying, “We’ve been told for years there isn’t such a thing as a flying saucer, but all of us saw it.”

Have you ever heard of the Hathaway Russell sighting? I hadn’t. I can only assume that Hathaway’s report exists, and that’s how there was a report that lead to a story that lead to me hearing it.

Parallels between today and yesterday

September 24th, 1959, a UFO sighting that lasted two hours was reported in Redmond, Virginia. That was yesterday, so many years ago now. I would be born some eight years later, and I am now 53. I live in a world…
