Does anyone reading this that remember ‘In Search Of,’ hosted by Leonard Nimoy? I remember liking that show. I remember liking science and mystery and I was a very curious and weird child of the sixties. Big Foot interested me. The Dogon Tribe and aliens from Sirius interested me. I have been assured, by colleagues none the less, I am weird.

Evidence for Weirdness

My son caught the Tom Hank’s version of Captain Sully crashing an A320 in the Hudson on youtube. Not only have we gone through that video a thousand times, but we have paused it, asked questions, memorized the dialogue, and discussed crashes, probabilities, and alternative landing options. There isn’t a conversation since that hasn’t had the opportunity for my son to insert “Birds!” and we spiral back into dialogue.

Literally, we are re-enacting this scene weekly. We built a plane in Minecraft, and we take turns being pilot and co-pilot. We are rehearsing life. We board airplanes and examine the raft tech and how it hooks to the floor. We check everyone’s seatbelts as we pass. “It would be a good idea to keep your belts on.”

I can’t even change it up. I take the microphone, “This is the Captain. Brace for impact” is the line. If I say, “this is Captain. Can you bring me some coffee, cause we’re about to have a really bad day…” my son stops the re-enactment and…
