Is AI Sentient the Wrong Question

Regardless of what you think of the Google employee who was given time off for stating his AI was sentient, before you jump to your go-to position, you need to ask yourself- could you tell the difference between human text and AI generated text? This is the problem. The question isn’t if, or when, will AI become sentient. The question is, are there systems and protocols in place to recognize and respond in the event AI becomes sentient.

THE USE OF AI FOR SMART URBAN SERVICES IN SMART CITIES

It’s a serious question humans need to be asking. This is a level of spookiness most people don’t want to dwell on. Sane people, talking to AI chat-boxes get spooked almost to the degree it compares to people who are afraid of Ouija Boards. Humans don’t like the idea that there is non-human intelligence! It’s spooky because it’s not relatable in terms of our common experience.

There is a subconscious mind. It exist. It is, in every arguable way, just as sentient as the conscious mind, maybe more so, and it is its own person. Cut the human brain in half, separating the hemispheres by removing most of the Corpus Callosum, and you get what appears to be two distinct personalities. That’s spooky. And if I told you in your consciousness I could probably dig out a dozen or so personality fragments, algorithms, archetypes, or full blown, independent ‘beings,’ I bet I…
