Lost in Space, the Old and the New

As a product of someone who was raised by a television, I likely have a nostalgic mental health conditions that amplifies criticalness when watching reboots. Granted, I know there was bad television growing up. Buck Rodgers in the 25th Century; the movie was okay. Season one, was tolerable. Season two, not so much. Irwin Allen’s Lost in Space was a part of my childhood. It might explain my love for flying saucers. The Jupiter class ship was used in Land of the Giants, also an Irwin Allen show. I think it was also Sid and Marty Krofft’s Lost Saucer. On second thought, maybe not. Saucer’s are not created equal.

The Jupiter II

A part of me wants to stay with the old ship. I loved the Jupiter 2. I have had dreams where I was on the Jupiter 2. I traveled with the Robinsons for more seasons than there are television episodes to carry me. I also love the new Jupiter 2. It looks sleek and modern. I love and hate the slide-outs. It makes sense to have them, but my experience with slide out on RV’s is that they leak. That worries me. Then again, that new one has taken on some serious damage and still flies. Maybe it’s more hardy than I imagine?

Still, I go back to the original. Maybe I just spent too much time there. If I had to buy one, and there was a choice, I might go with new, provided the cost structure was in alignment with my bankroll. Talk about cognitive conflict. I am now bifurcated into two universes. Three if you count the movie. I did like the…
