The dream life

On a Whim and a Horse

The drama I had never intended to watch has me yearning for a home. Home, and a sense of family.

My best friend died in 2021. He was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in late 2020 and he would die within six months. The biopsy they did to determine the severity left him paralyzed on the right side of his body and aphasia. He was chair and bed ridden till the end. I had known him since we were born in 1992. He had never struck me as a horse guy. We watched science fiction, Star Trek, and action. We went on trips and went scuba diving. We never went horseback riding. For the last six months, he was a horse guy. The television series Heartland was on everyday, all day. The cast of that show became as familiar to me as Trek or MASH, and when he did, I let slip away. Today, it’s quiet, it’s raining, thinking about life and friends, and I am simply wanting to go riding.

Have you ever known people that look like others? I have met so many people that are look alikes that I have sometimes wondered if I am Jim Carey’s character Truman. Jack Bartlett, played by Shaun Johnston, looks like a buddy of mine that worked at American Airlines with me. After work he and I would have a beer and watch House episodes.
