Planting a Trillion Trees Needs to Start Today

Perhaps you have heard this idea before. It didn’t originate with me. I have discussed it a few times. I have even discussed Johnny Apple Seed and why they taught that in school, but never taught us to practice that! If we had planted more trees than we harvested in the US alone, we’d have fruit bearing forest the likes of which the world has never seen. Nature has been pretty good at forest making, so you would think planting trees is humans going with nature!

There is evidence planting a trillion trees will help. There is evidence it won’t. Doing nothing, definitely won’t move us closer to better. Green Cities should look like this:

There is no substitute technology better than nature, and green is that color. You want less concrete and more green. When concrete is necessary, you put green on top of that. This seems like the most common sense thing there is. Cities are hot because of sun exposure and reflectivity. Plants absorb energy. Instead of living in deserts, we should be living in forests. We could do this.

Not just plants, but food bearing plants
