Revisiting Narnia and other Magical Worlds

My son has been giving me hints of sadness. He would prefer he had a different name. He wishes he was an adult before his scheduled time. He wishes he was taller, stronger, faster. I remember being a child and thinking the same thing, though his world and mine, they were different worlds. It’s not an envy for his I describe, but perhaps a puzzlement as his world was much more peaceful than the chaos I was born into. That said, I am not blind to the loneliness in the lives of kids these days. Gone are the days of being free ranged human child, without any adult scrutiny or cameras. Parents determine the level of sociability. Do we also fail to spark the imagination because the guide rails are up and knee pads are on? Did you read the Chronicles of Narnia? There is a curious fact about that book; adults don’t get to go to Narnia. Why are most adults blocked from magical realms?

Mind you, it’s not just Narnia that has an age cap. Star Wars, there is an age cap to being a Jedi. “To old. To old to start the training.” The Jedi order scoured the galaxy for Force sensitive kids and took them from their parents. Rather brutal when you think about it, but the story suggested that was ‘good.’ The Jedi broke their attachments. I wonder if that contributed to the fall of the Jedi order? Think about it.
