"Right now, I’m wearing gray cotton socks, jeans that are too big for me, and a tired peasant shirt with a rip in the armpit that I’ve owned for over ten years. My hair is in a messy bun, as usual, and I’m not wearing makeup or jewelry."
Even that is sexy... Sapiosexual here, lots of things are sexy. But I think what I hear you say in this, you don't feel it, and you don't want to bother with an absurd thing that society does... and it does, one need look no further than magazines at the checkout stand to know all humans are being influenced...
Quite frankly, I have never felt worthy or attractive. Maybe it's not the same thing. After all, I am just a guy. I hate coats and ties and don't want to play. I am also not the Marlboro man. And I know, men don't have to work as hard to be attractive, unless working out regularly counts.
but you said it. Humans have more than one redeeming attribute. Society in general is shallow and will first see physical attributes. And I submit, even as dowdy and normal and specified age as you identify, you will have more quality attention than most people. Stars and roses simply draw people in. And some can draw people with just personality... I missed that boat, too, and so I work hard at writing to compensate for my perceived lacking.
