Something Like God

Does Thomas Nagel’s thought experiment suggest a God?

I think about God a lot. I have come to think of Her in the feminine, a huge departure from my childhood’s religion of origin. Thinking about her doesn’t make me a saint, or evolved, or spiritual. I am definitely not awake! Awake means not being on Earth. She is just something I think about. I think about sex a lot, too, and that doesn’t always mean what people think it means, nor is it the converse of thinking of god. Both of these trends originated before puberty. Puberty, which came to soon, just made it worse. Nagel asked if there was something that knows what it’s like to be a bat. The bat knows. Can the human know the bat? Is thinking about Nagel’s bat the equivalent of thinking about God? Does God wonder what it means to be human? Oh, is that why we’re here?!

Walking with Her

God imagined us, here we are. Pink elephants do exist!

It’s probably safe to say that life on Earth is troubled. It seems like there are lot of reasonable conclusions to be had about Earth life. One I keep coming up against is that most of my trouble was self-induced. That’s not a hundred percent true. There are other agents involved in our lives and they had choices, too.

In the course of my work, I have come to a conclusion that my troubles, they were nothing comparatively. Seriously, I have had heard some things! Humans are much more resilient that we allow. We are more resilient and lovely than we ourselves allow!

The video you will find below can be particularly difficult to listen to. It’s the story of a girl who was abused. The good part, she minimizes that part of the story, giving you just enough to understand- that was some shit. If you can’t relate, if you can’t even imagine, you’ve had a really sheltered life. I get to hear these stories daily.

Her story, though, is not about the darkness, but about the light. The contrast between life on Earth and there- we don’t have the words for it. I have yet to hear an Near Death Experience where a version of that phrase is not included. “I don’t have words to describe it.” “There are more colors there than we know.” “I couldn’t hold that color in my mind on returning to my body.”
