That's fair. What about computer chips and fiberoptics as a departure from tube technology?

I am always curious why the US military tried to build saucers. That seems to be departure from what we know about aviation, and the fact nothing came out of that tangent is also interesting. So, were they trying to emulate what they saw, and just couldn't get it to work with current propulsion systems?
