The Convoluted UFO Story

It’s fun reading UFO articles. Headlines like, UFO Sightings Are Real, but Aliens Are Not Responsible, by Nancy Huang is a nice article. It offers a quick, cursory glance into UFO history. But her first paragraph feels buggy to me, seemingly contradicting of her assertion “it’s not aliens.”

The Buddhist Temple of Wat Phra Dhammakaya

“The U.S. government recently confirmed reports by military pilots of unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), which are more commonly called unidentified flying objects (UFOs).” Okay, we’re all on the same page, right? UFOs, now UAPs, they are real. “The government also acknowledged the need to better understand UAP for the purpose of pilot safety and national security.” A day late and dollar short, but yeah, how many people have been saying that and for how long? “There was no mention of aliens from other planets visiting Earth, but the possibility was not ruled out.” Wait a minute. You just said it definitely isn’t aliens, but if you can’t rule them out, doesn’t that mean you can’t say ‘aliens aren’t responsible?’

Oh?! Did you mean we can’t hold aliens accountable for reckless flying because they’re just not responsible beings?

Huang goes on to finish that paragraph with, “For decades, the U.S. government has denied the existence of UFOs, making this a major step…” A major step towards what? More transparency? We’re still waiting on ‘transparency’ from the US Air Force. In the light of the fact that UFOs are real, and likely have been going all the way back to the 1952 White House fly-over, with video footage that even first grader could say- aircraft, not weather- it makes you wonder why a science writer is not at least questioning the statistics of only ‘144’ reported incidents.

Since the 1940s, we have had what, 10s of thousands of reports?

If Huang is suggesting it’s a major step forwards that the US Government is ‘just’ acknowledging UFOs are real, well that’s a rather small step. Most of us in the know have known. The fact a member of the media can say this government admission is a step forwards to any degree, given the years of ridicule they have heaped on the experiencers of truth feels hypocritical. The question science writers and journalist should be asking, if they are real, why were you denying it for all these years…
