The First Ghost Story
So, I stumbled across an artifact purported to be the first ghost story, etched into a Babylonian clay tablet. It’s a 3,500 year old story, about a man and a ghost, with instructions on how to free yourself from ghostly love. Humans have likely always attended to ghosts. Even today, ghost stories prevail. Sometimes they are jokes. Some are just fun, scary stories over a camp fire. Some are experiences that people report having. Maybe all of them are reminders that we should stay curious and alert.
If we were to be really honest with ourselves, and the fact that our conscious experience of life is not as mindful as we would like to imagine, there is lots of rooms for ghosts. Even if not ghost in the traditional sense, our conscious experience of life is a filtered gift of the subconscious mind. We don’t see everything coming at us. In truth, the only true self-control a person has is to expand or contract their focus. That is not a statement about the quality of awareness or being ‘awake’ or enlightened. Don’t chase something you have no control over. Focus on your breathing, and your perspective’s focus.
You can either stay in standard vision mode, zoom in on an artifact in microscopic mode, or expand to the degree your vision allows your periphery to see. Don’t panic…
