The Gift of Empathy

If you can tolerate it, it’s a path to peace. If you’re not prepared, it’s more curse than gift.

Unconditional love is a goal, but without purpose love quickly dissolves. A sugar cube in a cube of tea is noticeable, but in an ocean it’s lost. Empathy is not quite telepathic, but if it honed it can be indistinguishable. It can be functionally employed or absolutely crippling. Where a person falls on that continuum is often dependent on the degree of wellness they have cultivated. Where do you fall? Well, hypothetically, if just shaking someone’s hand allowed you insight into all their complexity- what would you do if they were less well than you?

All emotions and thoughts are data points on a map, almost comparable to a flowchart, but perhaps better viewed in this context as a character sheet that tracks multiple domains. Many video games employ physical heath stats, direct damage, illness, poisons, etc, but they also track a moral compass, in whichever choice opens social options simultaneously closing options. Being telepathically empathetic adds another compass to life.
