Work Ethics
In Jerry Maguire, the character Jerry played by Tom Cruise had what appeared to be a Bipolar, manic episode in which resulted in a brilliant idea and a mass email to his company. The idea was a philosophy change to something more in line with human ideals. Pushing that big, easy button on the email is the equivalent of setting off nukes. It has never worked for me. It didn’t work for Jerry, either. He was subsequently fired for that email. Even when the message being delivered is objective truth, detailing how a procedure could be modified to optimize expectations will likely be rejected if came from non management employee. Systems, like people, resist change- but systems are much more heavy handed against individual advocates of change.
It is said that a person who works hard will succeed, even get ahead. That’s a myth that seriously needs busting. What working hard means in today’s environment is that employees who accomplish goals will be handed more work. Clearly, if you are accomplishing goals, you have too much free time.
Work is an authoritarian model that is not open to negotiations.
