The Necessarily Subtle Contact
A radical departure to the meaning of life and meeting aliens?
When it comes to an alien presence on Earth, subtle hardly begins to describe this prolonged introduction to the variety of species that have been said to be living among us. Some say that is evidence of a malicious agenda against humans, while others have maintained a protocol equivalent to Star Trek’s prime directive. The latter makes more sense to me, as a superior race already occupying the high ground needn’t worry about the feelings of that which they’re going to eliminate. Nor take this long? Still others have proposed aliens are helping us mature spiritually, so we can be ready for contact.
Imagine meeting a telepathic, superior race. Whether they’re hyper analytical, or hyper abstract- interfacing with a rudimentary language based creature would likely result in non-sequitur dialogue. If we assume responses from human interjections were automatic, solicited from our unconscious mind, then a response from aliens could be quite unpredictable.
Fear may be a natural response to an entity lurking in your subconscious mind. How do we know someone who saw an alien and had a thought, please don’t abduct me- got abducted because even though there words were no, their subconscious was imagining worse case scenarios. The alien telepath saw the core image, ‘oh, they want us to do that, okay…’
Look at the art we create now with AI. Without the guardrails up, the results would likely be offensive. At least, that’s what the guardians of AI want you to believe. Does it seem humans today are more easily offended than in days gone by? Maybe that’s a tangent, however if we assume superior AI or telepathic aliens exist- there will be no guard rails on the interactions unless AI and telepathic aliens imposed self-restraints.
And are more aware of their own limitations than we are of ours.
Imagine for a moment that it’s true, that using hypnosis alone I could leave traces of a cigarettes burn on your arm without ever touching you. Now, hypothetically, could a telepathic survey of a human leave traces of harm, though in truth the aliens never laid a finger on the subject?
Could we then say that harm was unintentional? It was just an unfortunate reaction of our subconscious mind to a telepathic interface. Our own fears reflected back to us could harm us. All communication starts with reflection. To hear you, I must listen and repeat back what you have said to get confirmation. Now, imagine two brains trying to speak and listen.
If all interactions starts at the subtle, subliminal, and subconscious levels of being- would that result in a surreal, LSD like flow of data that would necessarily impact our translations?
There are good trips and bad trips. How does a person know which one he will get? Is it what is in our own psyche that determines whether the psychedelic trip is good or bad? I am not saying bad trips are bad. In the right environment, with a shaman guiding, bad trips can be as beneficial as shadow work with Carl Jung.
The subconscious mind always responds first.
Consider the things you respond to. Do you get mad at traffic and experience road rage? Do you imagine you can’t chose another response than anger? Do you see a news article and get mad? Do you write the author or leave disparaging comments?
Do you ever feel like joy or fear was provoked by art or movies or songs?
What about with people? Are you always slow to respond? Do you consider the thoughts and feelings of others? Could you hold a conversation without sight? Did you know most information is visual? 70 to 90 percent of communication is non-verbal.
Have you ever responded to an email or text with the wrong emotions and words because you misinterpreted it? Do you ever wish your response had been much lighter in nature?
If you think telepathic communications will be easier, think again. What if telepathic communication is not only subtle, but more abstract than verbal language?
Just as humans have language that is culturally bonded into contextual memes, telepaths would have to learn specific patterns of receiving and transmitting data. It would likely not be word based.
Have you ever had a thought that you dismissed? Or maybe you thought it was a good idea and by the time you find a pen to write it down, it’s gone.
Like dreams that disappear the moment you awake, telepathic communications could be this subtle. We’re not used to communicating this way. We are taught to avoid daydreaming or drifting, but what if that’s the space where telepathic messages are best heard?
Assume medium or psychics have better access than most to subtle information. If you watch and listen to them, you will see an error rate. All humans have error rate when it comes to communicating, don’t assume mediums are not communicating telepathically with others just because of an error rate.
If a person communicates with images, you have to decipher the image. If you focus on the wrong artifact in the image, you could miscommunicate. Our culture more than any in previous history use memes to communicate. Just because you have a picture of Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka, doesn’t mean you’re talking about chocolate!
Can sarcasm be transferred telepathically? For this meme and others to work, one as to have context, not just imagery. Words can be equally tricky without context, and that’s not even factoring in homonyms, synonyms, antonyms, and all those other wayward nymphs!
All persons struggle with self doubt. Sometimes, even when we have certainty that we have heard something- we doubt ourselves. Have you ever knew something, but you kept quiet only to say after the fact, “I knew it!”
Emotions, though, seem like a sure bet. If brains link together in a telepathic circuit, do emotions get amplified the way sound does when you bring two microphones together? Brains naturally amplify important noise in order to make shortcut in analysis. Two brains trying to resolve communication patterns will likely amplify noise, and a positive gain feedback loop might ensue.
At a certain threshold, humans would likely pass out due to too much internal noise, perhaps experiencing something akin to a seizure. It is also possible that once a telepathic link is established, it can’t be turned off. Sedating humans might be the only way to break contact.
Entrainment
All artifacts in a particular environment will eventually entrain. Clocks on the same shelf will beat in time. So will metronomes. People in a room meditating, hearts can get in synch. Females living together have been known to cycle together. All things want to entrain.
In a room of humans, there are those who will naturally step forwards to lead. There are those who will naturally follow. There are those who will leave groups.
If two brains get in sync, there may be a natural proclivity for one brain to dominate. Not out of maliciousness, but out of natural default settings. One way to override that might be strong emotions. Sometimes, when we feel ourselves being lulled into a trance, or our conscious is waning, we will experience a surge of energy, often anger, to motivate us to stay more alert and in charge of our faculties.
Humans do more group think than you probably suspect. We become anxious when we are unable to read groups or fit in. Telepathy may take this to a whole new level. A naturally dominant brain might unnecessarily rob people of free will.
How do you solve that? I suspect awareness. How many of us are aware of our own thoughts? How many can recognize an automatic thought, like a fight or flight response and stop it at thought level, as opposed to blocking at behavior level? Even if you stop yourself from fighting or fleeing, can you stop your heart from speeding up, your skin from sweating, your face from flushing?
I dare say, even the best of us are not in charge of our own bodies to the degree we imagine, so- how do you think you would respond to a telepathic entity? Will you want to run, freeze, or fight?
Can you hold a loving, kind thought and emotion, even though you are repulsed to your core? Can you find beauty in ugly? Because if you can’t be loving or kind to a stranger, and or someone who offends your vision, your sense of smell, or sings off tune, the telepaths will know.
If aliens are primarily telepaths, you may find their unpracticed voice offensive. Or they may find your practice voice painfully loud or obnoxious.
This is likely why aliens remain subtly in the background. Humans can’t be quiet to save their life. Don’t believe me? As why people need loud mufflers in a residential neighborhood. They think that’s cool?
