Humans and Souls
So, my son has asked me on several occasions now, ‘why do we need souls?’ I am not completely sure where it is coming from. Yes, I have a spiritual side and sort quite a few esoteric tangents, but I also have minimized my influence over belief system, trying to be the opposite of the dogmatic practice I was immersed in as a child. His mother isn’t necessarily atheist, but if you try to pin her down- she’d be ‘ You live, you die, that it’s-’ and she frequently is disgruntled on how much money her father gives to the monks to influence his next life, because she thinks he is only influencing the monk’s present life.

There are things to sort here. I have experiences. Subjective. For me, they are a knowing- but no manner of reducing it to a artifact for verbal communication will render that as a truth to other. I think I have quite a bit of literature that touches upon this domain. I can always learn more. One can argue that more one reads, the more likely one can make reasonable correlations that allow for statistically analyzing speculative discourse. Maybe it’s never 100 percent confidence, but in many ways- holding confidence seems better than faith. Faith seems to be an admission you have zero evidence. I would rather have knowing. In…
