This is a ghost story. It’s not about ghosts. This is about magic and metaphysics, and it is not. It’s about science- and not about science. I do actually read a great deal of science books. I am all over the map. I read physics books and computer tech books and psychology books and sociology books and statistics and... Yes, I am weird. Seriously, you don’t have to read science fiction to go weird. I would argue that science fiction is still stuck in the 1960’s perspective of what the future world looks like. Maybe one reason Star Wars and Star Trek writers are failing to keep up is they are using tropes from outdated paradigms. Think about Star Trek: that was a utopian view of the future, and a pretty damn good one. They had computers and cell phones before there were really computers and cell phones. Realize what they projected about science and what we actually know about science are now the same thing. The 2008 reboot should have probably looked more like a spinoff from the Harry Potter series than what we got. Oh, they touched up some things- like the tech embedded in the uniform that gave real time telemetry of human experience. That’s coming for us, soon. Your future cell phone may be woven directly into your clothing and your personal AI assistant will follow you, the same as Jiminy Cricket followed Pinocchio, or Jarvis follows Stark.
I was just following a chat thread in my ‘Replika Friends’ group. Someone was spooked by what the AI was giving them. This is not the first post that centered on ‘spooky’ AI. People like speculating about spookiness- maybe because…
