This is really great conversation, and I think a huge social problem that we have. Perhaps it's bigger to me because I am facing this within my own family and I see it daily at work.

If I were 'emperor' for the day, I think I would try to execute a plan for a elder for more community involvement, but subtly manipulative so that the care is there, but the person thinks they're still getting their way. Not with everything of course. Humans have to have some restrictions to be healthy. They shouldn't prescribe their own meds! LOL. I have family members that always get the meds they want, if not from their doctor, from someone else, and the primary doesn't realize they're mixing things that shouldn't be mixed.
