Aliens could send quantum messages to Earth, calculations suggest, article by Emily Conover is just one of the articles covered by Cristina Gomez in her weekly strange-news coverage. It is certainly the sort of speculative, science article I love to read. It is, technically plausible, but yet fringe, and yet- the further outside of the box science goes, the more it suggests stuff that was already here, but dismissed because it was fringe!

How Quantum Computers Are Like a Magic 8 Ball, Omni Magazine, and Mr. Rogers on Channel 13.

Most scientist agree, having an interstellar conversation with conventional radio waves is absolutely ludicrous. It is likely why Carl Sagan proposed it would be better to look for aliens in our past, as opposed to radio astronomy. We’re more likely to find evidence of first contact by looking for oddities in culture, like the Sumerian culture, than we are likely to tease our a radio signal from billions upon billions of stars.

If humans are average, the window of opportunity for finding radio waves is infinitesimally small. We have been broadcasting for less than 200 years. We are likely to go radio silent as our technology becomes more refined with the next fifty.

If there is a technology that allows for communication at speeds that seem to violate the speed of light, it will be in the quantum world. We know time crystals exist, so we might…
