UFO Experiencer Support Groups

There have been few resources to truly help the Experiencers, but if the projected number of people having encounters are in the in tens of millions- that might be another reason the state wants to keep this subject secret.

Les Velez, former MUFON Assistant State Director in Northern California, Chairman of the A.E.R.C. (Abduction Experiencer Research Committee), and team leader of the A.R.T. (Abduction Response Team), suggested the number of people who are experiencers might be more closer to being ‘all of us,’ and most people just don’t remember! Experiencer is a fair term, though some would prefer ‘alien abduction’ to continue to stand. In fairness, some people have been abducted and minimizing that language seems to minimize their experience to innocuous. In terms of this essay, ‘experiencer’ seems fair because there is a vast continuum of experiences from pleasant to unpleasant. The new term doesn’t invalidate the less favorable experiences, but rather allows for a continuum to exist.

More people may have had experiences than anyone truly wants to acknowledge, or perhaps can even appreciate. In some ways, the harsh push back from critiques and academia over the years has always seemed out of proportion to the stimulus. It’s as if there is a bigger psychological barrier and resistance to this idea than can be explained by stigma and social paradigm alone. You can hear Velez speculative take the number of experiencers up dramatically, by saying we are all likely having experiencers.
