Perhaps the only time humans tolerate secrecy is around Christmas presents. It’s fun to surprise people. Perhaps that’s why we have toys like ‘Jack in the Box,’ On the other hand, we don’t like being surprised. We don’t like the dark. There is the fear there might be something lurking there. In fact, we expect there to be something there. In our heart of hearts, we don’t believe for a second we’re the best nature has ever made. Humans wonder why there is so much silence in the universe. Fermi’s paradox suggests there should be others. The Universe having doubled in age means we should have double the number of noisy neighbors. What if the silence is intentional? What if noisy humans are drawing to them something dark? What if the rite of passage that all sentient species go through is to become quiet?
