UFOs, Sorting Doubt and Hope

There have always been things in the sky, much of it prosaic, but shouldn’t we all want to be better at discerning what those things are?

For those a little skeptical, you’re probably in a good place. It reasonable not to hyper inflate data. I am easily excitable, which means lens flares too easily get inflated. Maybe it’s reasonable for the government to ground us by reminding us that most things are explainable, because all too quickly the world would be jumping at every light in the sky. Then again, it was the government that suggested sightings of unknowns have increased ‘exponentially.’ What’s the truth of it?

A reasonable pilot I know quickly debunked the Concorde UFO as a lens flare. I remain skeptical. I would like to think I know lens flares by now, and make arguments like, what’s the source of the lens flare? The sun is above and slightly behind the aircraft filming?

I was given solid good video by MUFON this week. Not solid enough to say aliens. Five lights, in formation, peculiar beacon rate, bright reds, with one that was white, that one being in the middle of the formation. Even from the start, they were most likely human aircraft. They made no sound. They seemed to be moving slow. It was easy to see them as one object with five lights. There was a sixth light, which was later resolved into a radio tower.

Probably aircraft, and I am like, this is awesome! We got you. I told myself to ‘ground yourself, buddy, and get Gary in on this!’ Before too long, I had lots of folks helping me. I love Texas Mufon!

One of the witnesses was trying to identify aircraft using flightradar 24 app on their phone. The app informed the person that there were 4 aircraft in the area, but it did not identify them. A peer at MUFON, who has a paid account, did a history search and identified 3 aircraft in the same vicinity, which again increased the likelihood of this just being human activity. He got more specific information than the witness:

Three USAF Boeing C-17A Globemaster III transports (“Sword 16”, “Sword 14” and “Sword 11”) were traveling NW to SE most likely on their way to JBSA-Lackland although Flightradar24 doesn’t…
