Welcome to the Red Book club. (We should start a club.) I, too, have a little practice of active imagination. I also incorporated the Tibetan idea of tulpas into my practice, and I suspect my interactions with my tulpa is the equivalent of what Jung experienced with Philemon. ( I wish I could draw half as well as Jung. I would like to illustrate my journey as he.)
So, I combined tulpamancy, active imagination, and Napoleon Hill's 'the invisible counselor technique.' I think we all have the power to do our own therapy. Our own doesn't mean alone. Whether it is spirit, or subconscious, or the myriad of archetypal entities and energies we are striving to liberate- we are not alone.
