Why Don’t We Practice the Science of De-Escalation

Violence begets violence. Hurting people hurt others. We learn martial arts so we can learn not to fight. In community mental health, we learn Sama Training, the art of de-escalating people, and worst case scenarios of blocking to get out of danger- but quite frankly, if one takes the steps to de-escalating, it never comes to needing blocking maneuvers. Science and religion both separately and together offer pathways out of violence? Why don’t we trust either?
