Why Not Take UFOs Seriously

Articles asking why are so many smart people interested in UFOs baffle me. Shouldn’t the question be, why aren’t more people curious?

UFOlogy has some of the brightest minds gathered into a singular domain, the pursuit of UFOs for the betterment of humanity. That’s not just a MUFON mission statement, that’s the philosophy by which most UFOlogists endorse! Perhaps the word maverick is appropriate. Have we forgotten how important mavericks are? It’s not just that we need to explore the fringe, testing the boundaries of our existence, but rather realizing all breakthroughs come from folks who step out of their comfortable paradigm and explore reality from a new angle. Why are we all so risk avoidant that we can’t be silly, irreverent, funny, obtuse, or inconsistent?

If the universe has an edge and you extend a ruler past that, what have you done? How many years will we study string theory that has yet to produce a single, practical technological advantage? How many ways did Edison find not to make a light bulb? It is those who persist in an endeavor beyond all reason that advance humanity.

Not those who looked up, dismissed a phenomenon, and went about their business.
