You Are Not Who You THINK
Regardless of whether you track this concept from a metaphysical belief, or mindfulness, or a spiritual belief like Buddhism, or psychologically, or scientifically, the end results is liberation from suffering.
This can’t be overstated. We are not who we think we are, and we are not who and how we THINK. This is true scientifically, as evidenced by research on mitochondria in the cell influencing thinking, bacteria in the gut influencing thinking, and your subconscious mind influencing thinking counter to what the conscious mind wants or even asks for. No matter how you slice up the brain, from your cells to other cells, and even bits of cells, and magnetic resonance- yes, even radiation, as evidence by insufficient sunlight resulting in Seasonal Affective Disorder, or Magnetic Resonance Therapeutic Hat triggering perceptions of God, or something simple like someone metaphorically ‘pushing your buttons,’ or that advertisement, product placement that put those cookies in your shopping cart, it is obvious that you have no control, and the more control you seek the less you have. So, what’s the way out of crazy?
